The School Day
Our playgrounds open at 8:45am and are managed by a staff member from that time. By 8:45am our Walking Bus has arrived at the school having walked along nearby streets, collecting children, since 8:30am. Year 6 children have the option of using the Ball Court in the main playground from 8:45am.
The school bells are rung at 8:55am each morning and the children line up with their teachers to enter the classrooms so that learning can start by 9am. Our Nursery and reception Class children finish their day at 3:15pm and the children in Years 1 to 6 finish at 3:30pm.
Our Nursery and reception children do not have playtimes because they spend their days learning inside and outside. Their lunchtime is from 11:30am to 12:30pm and lunch is served in the hall in the Reception Class building (or Pearl Building).
Our Year 1 to 3 children have their 15 minute morning playtime at 10:30am and the Year 4 to 6 children have theirs at 10:50am. Every Year 1 to 6 child has an hour for their lunchtime meal and play and this starts at 11:40am for Years 1 and 2, at 12:15pm for Years 3 and 4 and at 12:45pm for Years 5 and 6.
Year 1 to 3 children also have a 15 minute afternoon playtime. All playtimes are essential times to visit the toilets, have a piece of fruit (in the morning playtimes), have a drink, socialise with friends and undertake physical activity.
The school day can be extended in many ways. Hitherfield runs its own Breakfast Clubs from 7:45am and Afterschool Clubs until 6pm. There are also a wide range of extra-curricular clubs that run for approximately an hour after school most weekday evenings.
