The Hitherfield Curriculum
We believe that all children should have a range of experiences that broaden their engagement with and understanding of the world around them. At Hitherfield, we don’t leave this to chance. We take advantage of the fact that we are in one of the world’s most exciting cities and use London to provide great contexts for learning.
We make sure that all required elements of the National Curriculum are studied by the children; providing clear guidance for our staff and expecting all children to participate. Parents are given an outline of what their children will be learning each term so that they can contribute to the learning too!
We use our partnership with the Lambeth Music Service to ensure that all children begin to learn a musical instrument. We also have teaching and learning partnerships with schools in Paris and Dodoma (Tanzania) which encourage the children to develop their language skills and their understanding of global issues. Hitherfield is a Lambeth ‘Food Flagship School’ and we invest time in making sure that the children are able to learn about growing and eating healthy food through our Edible Garden outdoor learning area.
Hitherfield children get many chances to showcase the skills they build up; singing and playing their instruments at the Royal Festival Hall, showing off their maths and general knowledge and engaging in dance, art, sports and computing in school, local and London wide competitions.
