School Day

Our playgrounds open at 8:45am and are managed by a staff member from that time. Year 6 children have the option of using the Ball Court in the main playground from 8:45am.

The school bell is rung at 8:55am each morning and the children enter the classrooms so that learning can start by 9am. Our  Reception Class children finish their day at 3:30pm and the children in Years 1 to 6 finish at 3:30pm.  The Nursery runs from 9:15am to 3:15pm.

Our Nursery and Reception children do not have playtimes because they spend their days learning inside and outside of the classroom and learning through play. Their lunch is served in the  hall in the Reception Class building (or Pearl Building), whilst all other children eat in the Main Hall.

Every Year 1 to 6 child has an hour for their lunchtime meal and play and this starts at 11:40am for Years 1 and 2, at 12:10pm for Years 3 and 4 and at 12:40pm for Years 5 and 6.

All playtimes are essential times to visit the toilets, have a piece of fruit (in the morning playtimes), have a drink, socialise with friends and undertake physical activity.

The school day can be extended in many ways. Hitherfield runs its own Breakfast Clubs from 7:45am and Afterschool Clubs until 6pm. There are also a wide range of extra-curricular clubs that run after school every weekday evening.
