PSHE

Personal, Social, Health Education

At Hitherfield, PSHE is an integral part of everything we do in order to ensure our children understand themselves physically, emotionally and socially to enable them to lead fulfilling and happy lives; thrive as individuals and play an active part in society.  PSHE is delivered through a planned programme of learning (that aims to provide the skills, knowledge and understanding needed for them to be able to manage their lives).

Alongside the taught curriculum, Hitherfield develops PSHE through our pastoral system (including our behaviour management structure, whole school values and learning dispositions), our whole school initiatives such as anti-bullying week, the use of the edible garden, World Of Work Week, a range of guest speakers and educational visits and our assemblies.

Through all of these, we aim to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that equips the children with realistic and relevant information on topics such as: keeping healthy; managing risk; emotional wellbeing; relationships; careers information; cultural awareness and tackling discrimination.

We have two Learning Mentors who provide children and families with pastoral support and we have Play and Drama Therapy. We have a strong partnership with the Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) in order to offer a range of support and advice to families.
